German Bundesliga: Ehizibue Stars, Awoniyi Unlisted As Cologne, Mainz Suffer Mixed Fortunes

Super Eagles new boy  Kingsley Ehizibue was in action for the entire duration as struggling FC Cologne  lost 3-1 away from home to Bayer Leverkusen in Wednesday’s Bundesliga game.

 

Playing in  his 29th league appearance this season, the towering defender could do little to ward off  Leverkusen’s rampaging forward who kept his team’s backline busy all night.

The defeat leaves Cologne winless in their last eight games with five defeats and three draws.

Sebastiaan Bornauw got Cologne’s goal which made it 2-1 in the 59th minute.

 

Cologne are now 13th on 35 points in the 18-team Bundesliga table.

At the WWK Arena, Noah-Joel Sarenren-Bazee was an unused substitute for Augsburg who lost 3-1 at home to Hoffenheim.

Munas Dabbur bagged a brace in the 59th and 62nd minute while Ihlas Bebou added the third goal with a minute left.

Augsburg’s goal was scored by Ruben Vargas in the 69th minute and they currently occupy 14th on 35 points.

And at the Signa Iduna Park Mainz, Borrusia Dortmund , without Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, shocked Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

The win took Mainz’s points to 34 in 15th position and places them five points away from the relegation play-off spot.

Dortmund they remain second on 66 points and are no more in the title race after Bayern Munich were crowned champions on Tuesday.

In other Bundesliga result on Wednesday Frankfurt beat visiting Schalke 04 2-1 and Dusseldorf held RB Leipzig to a 2-2 draw.
