Club legend Steven Gerrard has hailed his boyhood club’s first ever Premier League title win while showering encomiums on Manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Merseysiders officially became champions of the 2019/2020 session last night despite not lacing their boots following Chelsea”s 2-1 over outside contenders Manchester City at the bridge.
After the game the Rangers gaffer posted to his Instagram “Congratulations to all @liverpoolfc on winning the premier league . Incredible achievement from a fantastic squad of top players . Lead by a world class manager and coaching team also a special mention for the backing from FSG . And lastly and most importantly the fans who have waited 30 years . Let the party begin.”
Gerrard was at Anfield for 17 years winning every trophy possible aside from the Premier League.
It’s no secret the 40-year-old is a big fan of Klopp and Gerrard recently claimed a statue of the German should be placed outside Anfield.
Knowing Jurgen, he won’t want to be put in that bracket,” he told the media.
“I know what he’s like, he’s humble and respectful. When you look at the scale of the job he’s done, for sure he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as those iconic managers.
What you need to take into consideration is that when Jurgen took over Liverpool they weren’t close to being the best team in the country, they weren’t even in the top four.
To come to Liverpool when he did, get to the amount of finals that he has, deliver the sixth European Cup and then deliver the first league title after 30 years…
For me, someone like Jurgen should be rewarded now. It seems like in football we often wait until people get older before their achievements are fully recognised.
But I know the owners of Liverpool won’t let that happen. When Jurgen delivers the league they should already be starting work on a statue of him” Gerrard stated.
