Arsenal beat Chelsea to overtake Manchester United as the most successful team in the history of the FA Cup on this day in 2017.
Chelsea was seen as favorites when they stepped onto the pitch to go against Arsenal in the final of the FA Cup on May 27, 2017.
After all, they reached the final after knocking out defending champions Manchester United in the quarter-finals and had won the Premier League title that season.
But Arsenal showed little interest in their opponent’s milestones. Rather, they were solely focused on the matter at hand, and it showed on the pitch.
Just four minutes in, the Londoners dressed in red and white stunned their cross-town rivals by opening the scoring through Alexis Sanchez. Victor Moses’ dismissal in the 68th minute could not have come at a worse time for Chelsea as, despite Diego Costa managing to level the scoreline, Aaron Ramsey’s late strike sealed the win for the Gunners.
