Victor Osimhen wins Lille Player of the Season award

Victor Osimhen has officially been announced as Lille’s Player of the Season, following his mouth-watering performances for the Ligue 1 side in the 2019-20 campaign.

The Super Eagles striker joined the Great Danes last summer from Sporting Charleroi after his impressive performances for the Belgian side, where he scored 19 league goals before his departure.

The 21-year-old striker was brought in as an immediate replacement for Ivory Coast international Nicolas Pepe, who teamed up with Premier League giants Arsenal last summer.

The forward immediately hit the ground running upon his arrival at Lille delivering scintillating performances week in week out that endeared him to the club’s fans.

Osimhen scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions and his 13 goals in Ligue 1 were the fourth highest in the division for the just-concluded season.

The Nigeria international saw off very tight competition from Benjamin Andre and Renato Sanches to clinch the individual award, according to a statement released on the club’s website.

The award is the second he has won since his arrival at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, having also scooped the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award back in October 2019.

The forward has been linked with a number of European clubs lately, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur following his awesome form with Lille slamming around £72million asking fee on him.
